Welcome to Web Design and Publishing!

This course is designed to instruct students in Web site construction and design. Students will learn HTML/CSS coding and then be introduced to popular Web design and graphics programs including Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and JQuery, as well as the multimedia program iMovie. The course will cover the usage of graphics, sound and video and discuss the appropriateness of multimedia on Web sites for journalism, advertising, public relations, and e-commerce. Students will work on several small Web projects that will lead to a final multimedia project using Wordpress as a content management system. The goal is to emphasize more than just the skills associated with individual programs, but the integration of several skills into designing effective and attractive Web sites.

In addition, the class will address social and theoretical implications of technology, such as the digital divide, cyberlaw, e-commerce, and Web content credibility and accessibility.

Due on Oct. 7 - Troubleshooting Exercise. Can you correct all the mistakes on this page? There are 12 problems that can be fixed by simply adjusting code. Make the site look exactly like the one that is presented on the screen. Make sure all links work, all images show, all content shows, layout reflects the example. Only fix problems on the home page. Links to other pages do not have to work.

Hint: most of the changes are in the html, but a few are in the CSS. Don't over think. These are simple coding changes, not major design adjustments.

When you are done, ftp your trouble folder to the public_html folder on your site. Make sure everything works after you ftp it, as well.
